Almost every tool on this page is built for one teacher marking a pile faster. A few are built for a department marking together. They look alike on a feature list and they are not the same purchase — the first buys back an evening, the second changes what you know about a cohort.
Work out which one you are buying before you compare anything else.
A single-teacher tool is enough if
- You mark your own classes and nobody else touches them.
- Nobody else’s marks have to line up with yours.
- The problem you are solving is your Sunday evening, and it ends there.
You need a department tool if
- More than one person marks the same paper — three of you or twelve.
- A mock has to be finished by a date, not whenever the last person gets to it.
- Someone will ask you why one class did worse than another.
- You would rather the papers did not leave with the teacher who marked them.
What a department tool does that the others do not
A mock pile splits across whoever is free, so a year group finishes to a date rather than to the slowest diary. Marks that disagree get flagged while you can still do something about it, instead of turning up at results day. The papers, the mark schemes and the marked work sit in one shared drive, which matters the term a teacher leaves. And it fits the way your department already marks — down a whole script, or one question at a time across the pile the way an examiner does.

Of the 12 tools below, none advertises a shared department library and none advertises more than one teacher in the marking — so if that is what you are buying, this page is mostly a list of tools solving a different problem.
