The real difference
MarkMate is built around a teacher’s own voice: you speak the feedback, it writes it up, and it can print back into exercise books. That makes one teacher faster at marking the way they already mark. DeepMark is aimed at the problem behind that — several people marking the same paper, to a date, and needing the marks to line up.
Practically, that means a mock pile splits across whoever is free and you can see who has done what. It fits the way your department already marks — down a whole script, or one question at a time across the pile the way an examiner does. Marks that disagree get flagged instead of found at results day. And the papers, the schemes and the marked work stay in one shared drive rather than on somebody’s laptop, which matters the term a teacher leaves. Two people can be inside the same script at once when you need it; most weeks you will not.
None of it depends on AI. The manual studio marks with no AI in the loop at all, which matters if your department has not settled that argument. And the point of the whole thing is the question that comes after the marking: which questions cost the cohort marks, which class, which assessment objective. That is where this is going, and the list below says plainly what is live today and what is still coming.

The only tool here built around the teacher's own voice, and the only one that prints feedback back onto paper for exercise books. Two products in flight: the live one has you mark and speak while AI writes it up; the beta has AI read and mark the work. Publishes almost nothing on data protection.
