Six assessment objectives, split between reading and writing
The first four grade reading, the last two grade writing. So a strong reader who writes carelessly and a strong writer who reads thinly get the marks they actually earned.

Marked as decisions, not as one holistic read
The short reading questions are marked point by point, the longer ones to level, and the writing on two grids at once, AO5 for content and AO6 for accuracy. In every case the mark is derived from the decisions, so the same response marked twice lands on the same mark.

Questions English teachers ask
- How does DeepMark mark the creative writing question?
- The writing question is marked on two grids, as the board splits it: content and organisation to level for AO5, technical accuracy on its own for AO6. So a vivid piece with shaky punctuation and a tidy but flat piece are told apart.
- Does it mark the Paper 2 comparison question?
- Yes. Comparison is the AO3 objective, judged on its own, so analysing both texts in isolation without setting them against each other is held below the comparison band, one of the most common places marks are lost.
- How does it handle the Question 4 evaluation?
- Evaluation asks for a supported critical judgement, not a summary. DeepMark checks for a clear evaluative stance backed by textual reference, and marks to the evaluation descriptor rather than rewarding description that never commits.
- Can it mark against my exam board's own scheme?
